Miz Mayhem keeps streak alive in Stormy Blues

Miz Mayhem kept her win streak alive by grinding past the pacesetters in the final strides in Saturday's $100,000 Stormy Blues Stakes for fillies on the turf, the richest race of Laurel Park's summer meeting.
Laurel's Saturday card featured 3-year-olds sprinting on both the turf and dirt, as earlier on the card, Whereshetoldmetogo won the $75,000 Concern Stakes.
Miz Mayhem, trained by Eddie Plesa Jr., for his wife, Laurie, has now won five straight races. She came into the Stormy Blues off four consecutive victories on the Gulfstream Park turf by a combined 14 1/2 lengths. That included the Cedar Key Stakes in April and the Nicole’s Dream Stakes last month. The Florida-bred Yesbyjiminy filly has now won 6 of 13 career starts overall.
Miz Mayhem ($3), sent away as the favorite under regular rider Edgard Zayas, was jostled at the start as she broke from post 2 in the field of 10, but quickly recovered to sit third in the early going as Factorofwon and Almond Roca dueled through early splits of 22.65 seconds for the quarter and 44.71 seconds for the half. The eventual winner was still third, about a length behind those two, in upper stretch, but surged past in the drive and opened up in the final yards to hit the wire 1 1/4 lengths in front, finishing the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:01.69.
"She got bounced around coming out of the gate pretty good and then settled in a little farther back than she usually is,” Eddie Plesa said. "She showed a lot of guts and determination and we’re just really proud of her. It’s a good thing for us."
Factorofwon held second by a neck over Classy Dancer. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back to the fading Almond Roca.
Earlier, Whereshetoldmetogo posted the third stakes victory of his career in the Concern.
Whereshetoldmetogo ($5.20) and Jeremy Rose rallied inside of pacesetter Old Time Revival coming into the stretch, and edged away from that rival in the final stages to win by three-quarters of a length, finishing the seven furlongs in 1:22.61. It was another six lengths back to favored Midnight Poker in third.
Whereshetoldmetogo, trained by Anthony Pecoraro, came into the Concern off a career-best effort at Delaware, crushing an allowance field by 10 1/2 lengths.
