Mitole has two with the bullet at Ocala breeze sessions

Nicole Russo|Mar 16, 2023

Through the midway point of the first commercial juvenile breeze show of the year, there was a crowded leaderboard at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.

In advance of the company’s March 2-year-olds in training sale, which kicks off the 2-year-old sale season in North America next week, a four-session under-tack preview is underway on the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface. Through the first two sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, a total of 14 juveniles by 13 different sires share the fastest time for a furlong, the standard yardstick for these sales, at 9 4/5 seconds.

The lone stallion to put two juveniles among the bullet furlong group was Eclipse Award champion sprinter and freshman stallion Mitole, who had both a colt and a filly in those ranks. Mitole, who won the Breeders' Cup Sprint and three other Grade 1 events in his championship season, stands at Spendthrift Farm.

His fastest colt, who is a half-brother to stakes winner Conquest Sandman, is consigned by Dynasty Thoroughbreds. The Ontario-bred is from the family of Canadian classic winner and champion Sweetest Thing. Mitole's bullet-working filly, named Mitole Magic, is consigned by SBM Training and Sales, as agent. The Kentucky-bred is from the immediate family of Canadian champion Mobil.

The only other freshman stallion with a juvenile among the bullet workers thus far is multiple Grade 1 winner Omaha Beach, who stands with Mitole at Spendthrift. Omaha Beach also had a colt work in 9 4/5 for Eddie Woods, as agent.

Also sharing the fastest furlong were a filly by Florida's leading sire Khozan; a colt from the final crop of champion Arrogate; a colt from the penultimate crop of champion Bernardini; colts by Frosted, Hard Spun, and War Front; and fillies by Brethren, City of Light, Liam's Map, Munnings, and Twirling Candy.

Among the smaller group of horses who had breezed a quarter-mile in the first two days of the preview, a Florida-bred colt by state sire Bucchero held the lead at 20 3/5 seconds. This is the second crop for Bucchero, whose bullet-working colt is consigned by Tom McCrocklin, as agent
