HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Misty Veil became a stakes winner just in the nick of time on Saturday when she shot through an opening along the inside en route to a length victory in the $150,000 Pippin at Oaklawn Park.
Her next stop is the auction ring, according to co-owner Michael Hui. Misty Veil is entered in a January auction at Keeneland that begins on Monday.
Misty Veil ($8.20), who had run second or third in three stakes ahead of the Pippin, was content to track leader Lovely Ride from the rail on Saturday as Lovely Ride set fractions of 24.25 seconds for the opening quarter, 49.09 for the half-mile and 1:13.93 for six furlongs on the muddy, sealed track. Misty Veil came through a seam approaching the quarter pole and continued on in determined fashion to cover the 1 1/16 miles for fillies and mares in 1:45.27.
Ramon Vazquez was aboard Misty Veil for trainer Mike Maker.

*Handle on the 10-race card from all sources was $7.2 million. Attendance on track was an estimated 7,500, a day after snow fell around Arkansas, including in Hot Springs.
