Mississippi Delta posts daylight victory in Alywow

ETOBICOKE, Ontario—Mississippi Delta mounted a powerful rally under Alan Garcia to win the $103,800 Alywow Stakes going away at Woodbine on Sunday.
Green Doctor prevailed in the front-end battle with Lady Ekati in the 6 1/2-furlong turf sprint, and she assumed command at the head of the stretch. Mississippi Delta ($8.90) bided her time at the back of the back while saving ground, and then closed down the center of the course to score by three lengths over Appeal to the Win. February Rose outran a fading Green Doctor for third, and favored Hooligan was ninth in the 10-horse field of 3-year-old fillies.
Over yielding ground, the final time was 1:18.64.
“She was very easy,” said Garcia. “She broke good, and I tried to be comfortable to the top of the stretch, because I knew the turf was very soft. I had to wait a bit to make a run at the end, and she did very well.”
The Mark Casse-trained Mississippi Delta earned $60,000 for owners Jackpot Ranch and Mike Rutherford.
Casse said he scratched morning -line favorite Conquest Misbehave not long before the race due to the course condition.
“Conquest Misbehave is a really good filly,” Casse said. “I was just a little concerned with give in the turf. I didn’t want her to have a bad experience.”
