Miss Yachty a standout in Texas Stallion Stakes Darby's Daughter division

Mary Rampellini|Sep 09, 2019

Miss Yachty will attempt to give her connections their second 2-year-old stakes win in less than a week on Wednesday night, when she makes her stakes debut in the $65,000 Darby’s Daughter division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Retama Park.

The six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies by eligible stallions will share a card with the $65,000 My Dandy division of the Texas Stallion Stakes.

Moro Ready, a two-time stakes winner who leads the My Dandy, is to be scratched, according to trainer J.R. Caldwell.

“I don’t think we’ll run,” Caldwell said Friday. “We’ll give him a little break and get him ready for the Houston meet.”

Miss Yachty will start as a strong favorite in her division off a 17 1/4-length debut win Aug. 21 at Retama. Lane Luzzi was aboard for Red Lane Thoroughbreds and trainer Danny Pish, the same team that won the $60,000 Sunday Silence on Saturday at Louisiana Downs with Deviant.

Miss Yachty’s maiden special weight romp earned her a Beyer Speed Figure of 72, which is the best career number in the five-horse Darby’s Daughter. The race also drew It’s My Money, winner of the Pan Zareta division of the Texas Stallion Stakes on June 23 at Lone Star Park.

Miss Yachty will break from the rail off her powerful debut effort, which impressed Pish.

“The race speaks for itself,” he said. “We held the filly in high regard. She validated what we thought. She’s definitely an above-average filly.”

Miss Yachty is one of the first winners for the young stallion Mr. Besilu, a $4.2 million yearling purchase at Keeneland September in 2010. She recorded one of the largest win margins for a horse trained by Pish, who has saddled more than 2,300 winners.

“My record is 20-something lengths,” Pish said, when asked. “I think it’s like the third-most lengths.”

In the My Dandy division, Bubba Bling could go favored over Luckenbacher. Bubba Bling has placed in two stakes in his last two starts, running second by a head in the $65,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile on July 26 at Prairie Meadows and third in the $50,000 Manzano on Aug. 10 at the Downs at Albuquerque.

Rudy Guerra has the mount from post 2 for Darren Fleming and trainer Steve Asmussen. Bubba Bling is a half-brother to Redatory, a stakes winner at 2 who on Friday night captured the $50,000 Texas Hall of Fame Stakes at Retama.

Luckenbacher was third in the $65,000 Staunch Avenger division of the Texas Stallion Stakes won by Moro Said Ready on June 23 at Lone Star. For this trip, Luckenbacher adds blinkers for trainer Beverly Burress.

Wonders of Hislove was an 11 1/4-length maiden special weight winner Aug. 7 at Retama. He broke on top and led throughout.

“He’s pretty quick away from there,” Caldwell said.

“I like him. I bought him for $1,500 at the yearling sale in Texas. I think he’s got a shot to be in the top three.”

Aces Prince, who makes his debut, is a half-brother to Galactica, who was a stakes winner at 2.

The stakes highlight the closing-night card at Retama.
