ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The aptly named Miss Speedy blew away her Ontario-sired opposition as the favorite in Saturday's $101,000 Ballade Stakes at Woodbine.
Miss Speedy tracked pacesetter Ol’ Blondie through honest fractions in the six-furlong event before taking control near the eighth pole. She went on to prevail by 2 3/4 lengths over 19-1 shot Gamble’s Silver, in a time of 1:09.07.
Talk to Ya Later, at 29-1, rallied outside to beat out a tiring O’ Blondie for third. Souper Flashy, Souper Pecan, Diamond Crush, Artie’s Princess, Pleasure’s Gold and Sacred Dancer completed the order of finish.
Sahin Civaci rode Miss Speedy ($4.90) for trainer Mark Casse.
“She’s an easy horse to ride,” said Civaci, who also rode her to a runner-up finish in the Grade 3 Whimsical here May 13. “You can sit off it with her. You can take her to the lead. She’s an honest horse who tries really hard. That’s what matters.”
A daughter of Souper Speedy, Miss Speedy collected $60,000 in her second stakes score for owner Gary Barber. She won the 2021 Duchess here, the highlight of her 3-year-old season.
