Miss Sea set for stakes debut in Passing Mood

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The fast-improving Miss Sea makes her stakes debut Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,000 Passing Mood, a seven-furlong turf sprint for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies.
Miss Sea placed in her first three outings at 2 on the Polytrack and then earned her diploma in her season opener in a slowly run maiden special weight race May 22. Miss Sea took her game to another level when she switched to the grass June 6. She battled for the lead in that seven-furlong Ontario-sired allowance before drawing away in the final furlong to prevail by three lengths in a time of 1:23.75 over a course labeled as “good.”
After missing out on her last start, Jesse Campbell will ride Miss Sea, who is owned by Kevin Pasher, an employee of trainer Mike Keogh’s.
KEY CONTENDERS
Miss Sea (Last 3 Beyers: 75-53-48)
◗ Keogh won the first two runnings of the Passing Mood in 1997 with Silver Taler and in 1998 with Colorful T.
River Maid (Last 3 Beyers: 74-75-69)
◗ She’s making her first turf start for trainer Bob Tiller, who has won the Passing Mood a record four times. The daughter of Where’s the Ring is a full sister to the stakes-winning sprinter Race for Gold, who was second in the 2010 Bold Ruckus Stakes on this course.
◗ She lost a heartbreaker last time in the seven-furlong Lady Angela Stakes to Galina Point and has had nearly six weeks off leading up to this engagement.
Pohdi Pohdi (Last 3 Beyers: 70-74-83)
◗ She is another Tiller trainee who is trying grass for the first time, and she’s by the good turf sire Old Forester.
◗ The speedy stakes winner lost for the first time in the Lady Angela, vying for the lead before weakening to third.
Galina Point (Last 3 Beyers: 75-74-78)
◗ The Mark Casse-trained 126-pound highweight notched her second stakes win in the Lady Angela before ending up fifth two weeks later in the 1 1/8-mile Woodbine Oaks.
◗ The daughter of Saffir is out of a Danehill mare. Her Tomlinson turf number of 315 is above average, but her dam has not produced a winner on the green.
Danish Princess (Last 3 Beyers: 74-55-66)
◗ She has by far the most turf experience in the field, including an authoritative five-length win in a seven-furlong Ontario-sired allowance June 26. She could work out an ideal inside stalking trip under Steve Bahen, who retains the mount for trainer Roger Laurin.
