Miss Mosaic holds off Joy's Rocket in American Beauty

Miss Mosaic took the lead in the stretch and held off a charging Joy’s Rocket to win the first stakes race of her career Saturday in the $150,000 American Beauty at Oaklawn Park.
Miss Mosaic won by a neck over Joy’s Rocket, while it was another half-length back in third to Ain’t No Elmers.
The American Beauty was a six-furlong race for fillies and mares. Miss Mosaic ($16.80) invaded from Kentucky for the race and tracked leader Sarah Harper through an opening quarter in 21.97 seconds and a half-mile in 45.72. The eventual winner moved to the fore from there, and covered the distance on a fast track in 1:10.71.
