Miss Marie descends in class in Woodbine feature

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Miss Marie drops in class and sheds some weight with the hot apprentice Slade Jones climbing aboard for Thursday’s fifth race at Woodbine. Scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf, the nonwinners-of-two tilt combines Ontario-sired allowance types with $40,000 claimers.
Miss Marie got a dream run along the inside when finishing second to Woodbine Oaks winner Munnyfor Ro in the $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes over 1 1/4 miles on the main turf last fall.
Miss Marie was protected at the first allowance condition in all four of her outings this year, the best of which was a charging second July 23. Most recently in another inner turf route, she awaited room on the far turn while trying to mount a bid and eventually wound up seventh behind two next-out winners, finishing just four lengths in arrears.
A daughter of American sire Carpe Diem, Miss Marie runs with a $40,000 tag on Thursday. Jones, who won his first stakes last Friday on A Touch of Red in the South Ocean, is 3 for 4 for Miss Marie’s trainer, Breeda Hayes.
All the others in the body of the fifth race also are competing for $40,000 – Trizzel Trazzel, Tempereya, Fredericia, Pemberley, and Vivid Vixen.

Trizzel Trazzel could set the pace in her first two-turn start on the grass. She graduated by disqualification in her penultimate outing, from which the top finisher Curlin Candy exited to beat males in a maiden special.
In her first attempt at this level going about seven-eighths on the main turf Sept. 24, Trizzel Trazzel got away slowly before ending up second behind a runaway winner.
Leo Salles retains the mount on Trizzel Trazzel and appears to have her hole card. “Longshot Leo” is 2 for 7 for Kevin Attard, the meet’s second-leading trainer.
Tempereya filled out the trifecta in each of her last three races, most recently when dropping to a starter/optional-claimer. She’s a candidate for the lower rungs of the exotic wagers.
Fredericia used her winter fitness advantage to win a maiden race early in the meet, but her last few races were poor, including a fifth against $25,000 conditioned-claiming opposition.
Pemberley had a troubled break three weeks ago before closing for second in a Tapeta route won by Buttered Toast, who subsequently finished a wide third against nonwinners-of-three foes.
Vivid Vixen came up empty after a stalking trip last time in hybrid route on the main course combining nonwinners-of-two allowance types with $50,000 3-year-olds. She was previously in solid form on both surfaces and could rebound at a square price here while getting some class relief.
Mum’s the Word was entered for the main track only off another dull performance on the inner turf.
