ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Miss Keller, favored at 8-5 came between horses under a rousing ride by Javier Castellano and outfinished Latin Love for a 1 3/4-length victory in Sunday’s Grade 2, $300,400 Canadian Stakes. Miss Keller, trained by Roger Attfield, vied briefly for the early lead with Points of Grace in the Canadian, a 1 1/8- mile turf race that attracted a field of six fillies and mares. But Miss Keller soon tucked back to stalk the pace as Magic Broomstick joined Points of Grace up front and Latin Love, the Irish invader who was the strong second choice at 9-5, moved four wide into serious contention entering the stretch. Latin Love briefly appeared to be headed for victory but Miss Keller rallied between horses and moved clear under a hand ride in the final furlong. “This filly likes to track horses,” said Attfield, who conditions Miss Keller for Three Chimneys LLC. “When [Castellano] asked her to go, she split horses, and went through there very nicely.” Latin Love was five lengths clear of Magic Broomstick, who nosed out Points of Grace for fourth money. Lemon Twirl and Jenny’s So Great completed the order of finish. Miss Keller, an Irish-bred 4-year-old, collected $180,000 for her fifth and most important win in her 16-start career. The final time over good going was 1:45.84. The course condition was changed to firm immediately after the race.
