Miss J McKay way too good for Anne Arundel foes

Miss J McKay evidently still was irked about being disqualified from a three-length win Aug. 4 in the Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park.
She took it out on eight rivals Saturday at Laurel Park, winning the $100,000 Anne Arundel County Stakes for 2-year-old fillies by five lengths. The margin of victory might have been close to double that had jockey Trevor McCarthy not wrapped up on the filly nearly a half-furlong from the finish. As it was, Miss J McKay stopped the timer in a quick 1:02.49 for 5 ½ furlongs over a firm turf course.
Miss J McKay ($3.60) is both precocious and intelligent as she allowed McCarthy to settle her near the back of the field behind a quick early pace before moving wide around the turn to reach contention. Miss J McKay overwhelmed the pace horses at the quarter pole and might have won by double-digit lengths had there been any need to run faster.
Cal Lynch trains Miss J McKay for Maxis Stable, Madaket Stables, and Wonder Stables. By the young sire Hangover Kid, by Lemon Drop Kid, Miss J McKay is a Maryland-bred out of Street Boss mare Ballykiss. She debuted in in a dirt sprint July 5 and won it by more than five lengths before being taken down as much the best in the Colleen, another short grass race.
Miss J McKay is the first foal to race out of Ballykiss, and on big-picture pedigree and her running style, she appears to be a candidate for two-turn racing. On talent, who knows how deep this well runs.
