As ungraded stakes go, Sunday’s $75,000 Added Elegance Stakes at Gulfstream Park ranks ahead of the norm. Six of the eight entrants are U.S. stakes winners, and those who are not might have the potential to be. Likely to go favored is Miss Hollywood, a $1.35 million yearling in 2013 who won her first stakes race in the Monroe at Gulfstream Park on July 31. That day, she overcame a somewhat tardy break from the inside, shot to the lead, and drew away to a five-length victory. Drawn again on the fence, she may again be sent early by regular rider Emisael Jaramillo, though the presence of other speed may force her to set or press a faster tempo than the modest pace she established in the Monroe. If a fast pace develops, that would play to the stalking style of Kiss to Remember, the leading money earner in the field with more than $615,000 in earnings. A last-out allowance winner, she seems to be cycling back into peak form after a modest first half of 2016. Jockey Chantal Sutherland, having a quiet year in California with two winners from 49 mounts, has been named to ride by trainer Marty Wolfson, and her agent, Tommy Ball, confirmed to Gulfstream publicity that she would be to town “just to ride in that stake.” Sutherland is best known for being aboard the multimillionaire Game On Dude for a portion of his career, notably winning the 2011 Goodwood, 2011 Santa Anita Handicap, and 2012 Hollywood Gold Cup. Wolfson has another entrant in the seven-furlong Added Elegance in the promising Curlin’s Approval, the least-experienced filly in the lineup. A winner of two of three starts, she comes off a fast first-level allowance triumph July 22.
