Miss Dynamic figures to flaunt speed in Barbara Shinpoch
Juveniles take center stage at Emerald Downs on Sunday in the $50,000 Barbara Shinpoch for fillies and the $50,000 WTBOA Lads for colts and geldings.
The star of the show is Miss Dynamic, who will be a short price to win the Shinpoch, which drew six horses and goes as the sixth race. Chuckanut Bay and Deshambeau are the main players in the Lads, which drew six horses and goes as the eighth race. Both races are at 6 1/2 furlongs.
Post time for the Barbara Shinpoch is at 5 p.m. Pacific. If you blink, you will miss the likely quick start of Miss Dynamic, who in both of her easy victories left the starting gate like she had been shot out of a cannon.

Trained by Rigoberto Velasquez, Miss Dynamic cruised to a 10-length victory when she debuted in a $15,000 maiden claimer July 2 and proved it was no fluke when she came back to score a front-running victory over Aloha Breeze in the $50,000 Angie C. just eight days later.
Her race in the 5 1/2-furlong Angie C. was particularly impressive as she broke from the rail, held a clear lead turning for home, and when she appeared to be tiring, she rebroke and drew off to win by 5 1/2 lengths.
The Washington-bred daughter of Dynamic Impact worked a sharp four furlongs in 46.80 seconds July 24 and followed it up with an easy breeze going the same distance in 48.80 seconds July 31.
“She is doing very well, and it helps that she is not coming back so quickly this time,” said Velasquez. “I don’t like to work my horses fast, but she did it easily, so I wasn’t too concerned with her first work back and she was more under control for the second.”
Miss Dynamic will break from the outside post with Juan Gutierrez up. Gutierrez has been aboard for both of her wins.
The Tom Wenzel-trained Aloha Breeze also romped in her debut, which came in a maiden special race, and was a slight favorite over Miss Dynamic in the Angie C. With Heribert Martinez aboard, the Kentucky-bred daughter of The Factor broke well enough in the Angie C., but before she knew it, she was a couple of lengths behind Miss Dynamic and was in chasing mode the rest of the way.
Aloha Breeze will break from post 4 on Sunday with Martinez up.
Chuckanut Bay might be a slight favorite in the Lads, even though he finished ninth and last after a slow break in the Everett Nevin Stakes at Pleasanton a month ago.
The Washington-bred son of Abraaj came from a stalking position to win a key maiden special weight race for trainer Jack Steiner at Pleasanton on July 1 in his second start, and he could get a similar trip in the Lads from post 4 with leading rider Alex Cruz up.
Adding to Chuckanut Bay’s appeal is that he will be making his first start for trainer Jorge Rosales, who is winning races at a 37-percent clip at the meet.
Deshambeau, trained by Frank Lucarelli, came from a stalking position to win his debut in a maiden special weight race June 24, and finished a distant second to Runnin Out of Days when favored in the $50,000 King County Express on July 10.
