Miss Double d'Oro powers home to win Wine Country

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Miss Double d’Oro invaded from Southern California and appreciated the class drop from a Grade 3 as she proved a smart winner of the $50,000 Wine Country Stakes at Santa Rosa on Saturday.

Owned by Calumet Farm and trained by Neil Drysdale, Miss Double d’Oro ($5) sat well back early in the 1 1/16-mile turf event for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares. She bided her time, pitched wide into the lane, and powered home to grab the lead and win going away by 1 1/2 lengths under Silvio Amador as the 3-2 favorite. Miss Boom Boom, another Southern California raider, likewise sat well back with the winner and rallied just behind her to finish second. Miss Centerfold ran third in the field of nine.

Miss Double d’Oro ran the distance in 1:46.48. The winner’s share of $32,950 pushes her career bankroll to $83,000 from two wins in six starts.
