The unbeaten Miss Code West will have some key variables in her favor Friday night when she attempts to conquer two turns in the $50,000 Slide Show at Remington Park. The race is one of three stakes on the card. The offerings are all restricted to horses bred in Oklahoma. The Slide Show is for 2-year-old fillies at a mile and a field of eight has signed on for the race. Miss Code West has defeated all of her rivals, whether in a maiden special weight race over five furlongs Oct. 5 at Remington or the track’s Oklahoma Classics Night Lassie at six furlongs Oct. 20. Miss Code West now stretches out in distance and gets pedigree support for the added ground. Her sire, Code West, was a multiple stakes winner at two turns, among his victories the Governor’s Cup at 1 1/8 miles at Remington Park. :: Bet with the Best! She closed from eighth to win her debut and in her most recent start set a quick pace and prevailed by two lengths after breaking from the rail. Floyd Wethey Jr. was aboard for both races and will have the mount again from post 6 for Jeffry and Julie Puryear and trainer Kevin Scholl. The outside draw might give Wethey options, as Miss Code West could get an ideal tracking trip off wire-to-wire maiden winner Caleb’s Bella and Letta’s Legacy, who pushed the pace in the Oklahoma Classics Lassie. Caleb’s Bella and Letta’s Legacy both are situated to Miss Code West’s inside Friday. In the counterpart for 2-year-olds, the $50,000 Don McNeill at a mile, Boom Baby Flats is expected to go favored. He won the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile in his last start Oct. 20 and in the process defeated three of the runners he faces in the seven-horse Don McNeill. Boom Baby Flats won his maiden in the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile, closing with a furious rush under Jose Alvarez, who has the mount again from post 7. A concern is whether he will get the right kind of setup, as maiden winner Chasin Jason has a chance to slip away under jockey Harry Hernandez. Chasin Jason won his debut on the front end last out at Remington. He won over both Bromigo and Running Flat Out, who both return in the Don McNeill. Boom Baby Flats is a son of Flat Out who races for his breeder and trainer, C.R. Trout. The horse is from the female family of Grade 1 winner Shotgun Gulch. The final stakes offering on the card is the $30,000 Silver Goblin that drew defending winner Fly to the Bank. The race is for 3-year-olds and up and it will be run over 6 1/2 furlongs. The race drew nine, including Remington Park Turf Sprint winner Dark Afternoon. Fly to the Bank comes into this year’s Silver Goblin following the same pattern as last year – off a win in the Oklahoma Classics Night Sprint. Stewart Elliott has the mount from post 5 for trainer Steve Martin. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
