Miss Brazil taking her 93 Beyer maiden win to Ruthless Stakes

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Miss Brazil, a good-looking 2 1/2-length maiden winner here Nov. 29, is targeting the $100,000 Ruthless Stakes on Feb. 7 for her next start, trainer Tony Dutrow said.
Last Friday, Miss Brazil worked four furlongs in 47.98 seconds over the Belmont Park training track, getting her final quarter in 23.57.
“I was super happy with how fluid she was,” Dutrow said. “I thought the rider did a great job, and it was well within herself, very happy.”

Miss Brazil, a daughter of Palace Malice, finished third with a bit of a wide trip in her debut Oct. 25 at Belmont. She came back to win her maiden impressively, running 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.12 and earning a 93 Beyer Speed Figure. The Ruthless is run at seven furlongs.
“That seems like it’s a good starting point, gives her plenty of time to get over such a big Beyer,” Dutrow said.
Dutrow said Miss Brazil also is targeting the $250,000 Busher Invitational at a mile on March 6.
“I feel good about those distances at one turn,” Dutrow said. “I don’t know what will happen when we get to two turns and farther.”
◗ Mr. Buff, the New York-bred millionaire who was upset by Bankit in the $100,000 Alex M. Robb Stakes here Dec. 12, worked a half-mile in 50.06 on Sunday morning over the Belmont Park training track. Mr. Buff, a now 7-year-old gelding by Friend or Foe, is being pointed to the $100,000 Jazil Stakes on Jan. 23. Mr. Buff has won the previous two runnings of the Jazil.
