Miss Brazil gets the job done in comeback and now targets Vagrancy

ELMONT, N.Y. – Miss Brazil made a successful return to the races last Friday, going wire to wire in winning a third-level allowance by 1 1/4 lengths at Aqueduct. She ran six furlongs in 1:10.91 and earned a 90 Beyer Speed Figure.
Miss Brazil, who was making her first start since she ran fifth in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes last July 9, will now target the Grade 3, $150,000 Vagrancy on May 14.
“I anticipated her breaking good and going to the lead and showing her class,” said Tony Dutrow, who trains Miss Brazil for Team D Stable and Sol Kumin’s Madaket Stable. “I thought she got a little tired the last 100 yards. She was blowing pretty good in the winner’s circle. She ate up and the next morning she seemed like herself.”

Last year at 3, Miss Brazil won the three-horse Ruthless Stakes and finished second to Search Results in the Busher Stakes. Dutrow stopped on her when he did because he felt Miss Brazil’s ankles were pinching her.
Meanwhile, Dutrow plans to run High Opinion in the Grade 3, $150,000 Beaugay Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Belmont on May 14. High Opinion, twice second in graded turf stakes last year, finished fourth in a six-furlong allowance here on April 16.
“I didn’t want to run her six furlongs, but I wanted to have four weeks to get to the Beaugay,” Dutrow said. “They ran 1:08 and change and she got beat a length. I’m looking forward to the Beaugay.”
Dutrow said he recently welcomed seven 2-year-olds to his stable. Among the more well-bred runners is Double Scoop, a half-brother to Cox Plate and Saratoga Derby winner State of Rest. Double Scoop is by Dandyman and was purchased by Dutrow in Ireland.
