Miss Beatrix wins $2M race

Alan Shuback|Sep 19, 2006

A $2 million race on a Tuesday afternoon?

That was the case at the Curragh when Miss Beatrix defeated 28 juvenile rivals to take the seven-furlong Goffs Million, a race restricted to horses sold at last year's Goffs Million yearling sale.

After breaking widest of all in the field of 29 under Daragh McDonagh, Miss Beatrix (6-1) defeated Regime by 1 1/4 lengths, traveling the seven furlongs in 1:29.40 on a yielding turf course. The result was hardly a surprise, as Miss Beatrix, a Kevin Prendergast-trained daughter of Danehill Dancer, had previously won the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes for juvenile fillies over the Goffs course and distance.

At 1.6 million euros, or $2,027,840, the Goffs Million was the richest 2-year-old race ever run in Europe.
