Miss Auramet, Running Memories meet again in North Miami Handicap

Miss Auramet is the complete package as a racehorse and all of her assets will come in handy Sunday when she takes on nemesis Running Memories in the $55,000 North Miami at Gulfstream Park.
The overnight handicap for fillies and mares will be run at five furlongs on the Tapeta. Miss Auramet and Running Memories are part of a field of eight and are the co-highweights, with each at 125 pounds.
“It should be a good race,” said Eddie Plesa Jr., who trains Miss Auramet. “We’re looking for a good race.”
Miss Auramet is a multiple stakes winner with tactical speed who has compiled a record of 12 wins from 32 starts and more than $600,000 in earnings for the partnership of David Melin, Leon Ellman, and Laurie Plesa. The 6-year-old daughter of Uncaptured also has 11 runner-up finishes and has won stakes on dirt, turf, and synthetic tracks.
“She’s truly the kind of horse a trainer likes to get up every morning and go to the barn, know she’s there and doing well,” Eddie Plesa said. “To me, she’s equally good on all three of those surfaces. Looking at numbers, she’s equal on all three surfaces.”
Miss Auramet is looking for her second straight overnight handicap win at Gulfstream following a 2 3/4-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong Tapeta sprint July 16.

Miss Auramet will break from post 2 under Kevin Krigger.
“She can be on the lead or just laying off the lead,” Plesa said. “It doesn’t matter.”
Running Memories is back at Gulfstream after running fifth in the Chicken Fried Stakes at five furlongs on turf July 16 at Lone Star Park. She was the favorite in the race after winning back-to-back overnight handicaps at Gulfstream in May and June. The runner-up in both of those overnight handicaps was Miss Auramet.
Running Memories owns the field’s best Tapeta number, a 95 for her win in June. The second-best synthetic-track number in the field is the 86 put up last out by Miss Auramet.
Running Memories is a 4-year-old daughter of Bahamian Squall who races for Donald R. Dizney. Edgar Perez has the mount from post 4 for trainer Joe Orseno.
Poseidon’s Passion was the runner-up to Miss Auramet in the overnight handicap in July and flattered Miss Auramet last month, when she came back to win on Tapeta at Gulfstream. Luca Panici has the mount for trainer James Gulick.
Diamond Wow cuts back from a mile. She won her debut at five furlongs on turf last year at Gulfstream. Following that race she became a stakes winner over seven furlongs in the track’s Our Dear Peggy.
Diamond Wow also was Grade 2-placed last year, when she ran second in the Jessamine on turf at Keeneland. She is making her synthetic-track debut in the North Miami.
Romero Maragh has the mount from the rail for trainer Patrick Biancone.
