Mischiffie finally gets her chance in Sunday turf sprint
DEL MAR, Calif. – Mischiffie will seek her third win in her last four starts on Sunday when she goes in a five-furlong turf sprint – a second-level allowance that kicks off the card.
She won here during the summer meeting against maidens, and most recently was a first-level allowance winner at Santa Anita. That race was two months ago.
“I’ve been sitting waiting for this condition to go,” said her trainer, Phil D’Amato.
D’Amato has action in five of the nine races on Sunday, including the cleverly named Shandling, a son of Distorted Humor who rates an outstanding chance in race 5, a turf sprint for maidens. He was second in his debut Oct. 13 at Santa Anita.
“He broke in a tangle and got dragged all the way back to last, but he came with a giant run,” D’Amato said. “I would expect him to break sharper and be in a good stalking position.”
