Into Mischief, Speightstown juveniles top Ocala Breeders' preview show

Nicole Russo|Apr 23, 2023

Four-time reigning leading sire Into Mischief and perennially successful stallion Speightstown both factored prominently as the under-tack preview show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training concluded.

In seven sessions of works over the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack, concluding Saturday, a colt by Into Mischief and a filly by Speightstown were among the quartet of juveniles tied for the fastest furlong. Those two, along with a filly by Mendessohn and a colt by Frosted, all worked the traditional yardstick for these sales in 9 3/5 seconds. Speightstown also sired the fastest quarter-mile worker of the week.

The Into Mischief colt is consigned by Wavertree Stables, as agent. He is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes winner Singing Kitty. The Ministers Wild Cat mare is the dam of two starters to date, with one winner.

The Speightstown filly sharing the bullet furlong is consigned by Scanlon Training and Sales, as agent for Excel Bloodstock. She is out of Grade 3-placed Spooky Woods, a Ghostzapper mare whose first runner is a winner. Grade 3 winner Arabian Knight, who topped last year's OBS spring sale, appears on the catalog page.

A bullet-working Florida-bred filly, consigned by Off the Hook, as agent, is from the second crop of the globe-trotting Mendelssohn. She is out of the unraced Lonhro mare Caroline Victoria, dam of two winners from as many starters.

Also matching the time was the Frosted colt, a Kentucky-bred who is consigned by Longoria Training and Sales, as agent. He is out of the Indian Charlie mare Handwoven, dam of two winners from three starters.

Among the juveniles to work a quarter-mile, a smaller group that does grow as the season progresses, a Speightstown filly held the 20 1/5-second bullet. The filly, consigned by All Dreams Equine, as agent, is out of the Revolutionary mare Last Dance, whose first runner is a winner. Last Dance is out of a full sister to Canadian Triple Crown winner and blue hen Dance Smartly, among other stellar relations.
