Into Mischief, Not This Time fillies set fastest times at midpoint of OBS breeze show

Nicole Russo|Jun 03, 2020

Juveniles by reigning leading general and juvenile sire Into Mischief and early leading freshman sire Not This Time were the category leaders as the under-tack preview show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training approached its midway point.

The OBS spring sale, which was postponed from April, runs June 9-12 and effectively restarts the juvenile sale season in North America after it was upended by the coronavirus pandemic. The breeze show for the sale began Sunday and will run through this Saturday. The OBS spring sale is considered the company’s flagship sale and is something of a bellwether for the national marketplace, as it typically offers the largest catalog of the season and offers broad spectrum of horses for buyers at all levels. There are 1,315 hips in the catalog, including supplemental entries, for next week’s sale.

A filly by Into Mischief breezed a furlong in 9 3/5 seconds Tuesday on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack surface and holds the sole lead for the fastest time at that distance, the traditional measuring stick for commercial juveniles. The filly, consigned by bloodstock agent Randy Bradshaw, is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes winner Shanon Nicole. That Majestic Warrior mare is from the extended family of multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Dry Martini.

A half-dozen juveniles were tied for the second-fastest furlong at 9 4/5 seconds through three sessions, including another filly by Into Mischief. That group also included fillies by Munnings and Street Boss and colts by Ghostzapper, Lemon Drop Kid, and Tapizar.

A filly from the first crop of Not This Time, who is off the mark with two winners to lead this freshman class early, worked a quarter-mile in 20 1/5 seconds on Monday to establish the fastest time for that distance. The filly, who is consigned by Top Line Sales, as agent, is out of the Grade 3-winning Wilko mare Sheza Smoke Show, whose first two dams are stakes winners.

Four others are tied for the second-fastest quarter at 20 3/5 seconds, including a colt by Into Mischief and a colt by fellow freshman sire Runhappy. Rounding out the quartet are fillies by Bayern and Street Sense.
