Into Mischief looks to continue hot run
Breeders often return to successful crosses or patterns in hope of striking with another stakes performer – and the yearlings representing Into Mischief, who is in career form, in the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling catalog are no exception.
Into Mischief is represented by a colt out of a daughter of Life Happened – meaning that broodmare is not only a half-sister to two-time champion turf mare Tepin but also to versatile multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Vyjack, who is by Into Mischief.
The stallion’s offerings also include a filly whose dam is a half-sister to Into Mischief’s Canadian champion Miss Mischief and a filly whose dam is a half-sister to the stallion’s Grade 3-winning son Can the Man. The latter is from the family of outstanding broodmares Blush With Pride and Better Than Honour.
Into Mischief, who stands at Spendthrift Farm, was among last year’s leading juvenile sire by earnings, and this year he was represented by his best classic performer to date, as Florida Derby winner Audible finished third behind eventual Triple Crown winner Justify in the Kentucky Derby. Led by that classic-placed runner, the stallion’s 3-year-olds have recorded nine benchmark Beyer Speed Figures of 90 or higher – trailing only the late Scat Daddy, sire of Justify, and prominent classic sire Curlin, who added classic-placed Good Magic and Tenfold to his résumé this year.
Into Mischief has already indicated that he is set for another strong run with this year’s 2-year-olds as well, as his commercially popular offerings have begun to debut. He was one of the first stallions to record a benchmark Beyer of 80 in that category, as his Instagrand, who sold for $1.2 million at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale, posted an 88 Beyer when romping by 10 lengths in his debut June 29 at Los Alamitos.
