Mirabeau romps in fillies division of 'Shine' Young

The $5,000 filly delivered a five-figure stakes win Saturday night at Evangeline Downs.
And she did it with double digits.
Mirabeau, who brought $5,000 at auction last year, became a stakes winner when she rolled by 10 1/4 lengths in the $60,000 fillies division of the D.S. “Shine” Young Memorial Futurity.
The colts and geldings division went to Chu Chu’s Legacy. Both of the 2-year-old winners are by the stallion Bind.
Mirabeau ($3.60) won her third straight race. She was content to track the pace through an opening quarter in 22.07 seconds, then began to separate from her rivals after a half-mile in 46.19. She covered 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:04.90.

Diego Saenz was aboard for trainer Ron Faucheux.
Squox was second, while Mamas Gone Crazy was a neck back in third.
Faucheux purchased Mirabeau as a yearling at the Equine Sales Company of Louisiana auction and shortly afterward sold an interest in her to Larry Romero.
Mirabeau picked up $36,000 for her win Saturday night, and overall has won 3 of 4 starts, earning $75,350.
Chu Chu’s Legacy ($10.20) was a four-length winner over Southern California shipper Schnell in the colts and geldings division of the Shine Young. It was another half-length back to G’wildcat in third.
Chu Chu’s Legacy dueled through an opening quarter in 21.81 seconds, carried on through a half-mile in 45.73 and finished up in 1:05.42.
Tim Thornton was aboard the winner for owner and trainer Allen Landry.
Chu Chu’s Legacy, who was a maiden special weight winner one start prior to the Shine Young, is now 2 for 3 for earnings of $60,800. He was a $4,000 purchase at auction in 2019.
The stakes closed out the meet at Evangeline.
