Mind Your Biscuits wins the Malibu
Benoit & Associates Mind Your Biscuits should be the favorite when he makes his 4-year-old debut in the Gulfstream Park Sprint.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Mind Your Biscuits figures as a solid favorite when the 4-year-old colt makes his first start since winning the Grade 1 Malibu on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita. An earner of nearly $800,000, Mind Your Biscuits will return in the Grade 3, $100,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint at 6 1/2 furlongs.

The Gulfstream Sprint is one of three stakes to be run here Saturday, along with twin turf sprints, the $75,000 Texas Glitter and $75,000 Melody of Colors.

Royal Delta’s brother on rise

Although the late Royal Delta was a three-time Eclipse Award winner through her exploits on dirt, her younger half-brother is making a name for himself on turf.

After opening his career with two losses over dirt, Delta Prince ran his turf record to 2 for 2 by rallying to win the Saturday finale, a first-level allowance at a mile.

“He certainly finished strong,” trainer Jimmy Jerkens said. “He just seems to handle the turf a little better. He has more confidence over it.”

Delta Prince, a 4-year-old Stronach homebred colt by Street Cry, was produced by Delta Princess, the dam of Royal Delta (by Empire Maker). Royal Delta died earlier this month at age 9.

◗ Jockey Carlos Olivero returned after the second race Sunday with a smile on his face – and not just because he had won aboard Sassy Sierra.

Olivero finished the race with both feet out of the irons after Sassy Sierra took a very awkward step when changing leads about 60 yards from the wire. Olivero managed to stay aboard despite being jolted upward, and the filly persevered to prevail by three-quarters of a length.

◗ Gulfstream will be dark Wednesday, March 1, when the track hosts its annual sale of 2-year-olds in training in conjunction with the Fasig-Tipton Co.
