Mind Your Biscuits to make 2018 debut in allowance

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Sometimes you never know what little surprises you’re going to get during the Gulfstream Park Championship meet. Friday’s card is a case in point, where mixed in among the regular weekday fare of so many maiden and low-level conditioned claiming races is a main event that features the 2018 debut of one of the premier sprinters in the country, Mind Your Biscuits, and the return of the undefeated, Grade 3 winner One Liner. Credit the Gulfstream racing office for letting the seven-furlong optional claimer go with just five starters, a field that also includes the Chilean multiple Group 1 winner Big Daddy, the Grade 3 placed Conquest Windycity, and Berliner.
“The creativity Gulfstream Park uses in its condition book allows this kind of race to go,” said trainer Chad Summers, who is using Friday’s headliner as a prep for Mind Your Biscuits’s first major goal of the year, the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Sprint on March 3.

Mind Your Biscuits has not started since finishing second to Sharp Azteca in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap to close a 2017 campaign highlighted by his easy win in the Dubai Golden Shaheen, a race Summers also is targeting this spring.
“He’s doing super,” Summers said. “He’s eligible for this race because he hasn’t won in six months, and it’s a great starting point and segue into the Gulfstream Sprint. If this race didn’t go Friday, I probably would have had to either train him up to the Sprint or more likely skipped the race and looked elsewhere for a prep before going to Dubai.”
