The millionaire Tres Borrachos nears retirement

“If he doesn’t win or run well, we’ll just retire him,” Jones said. “If he doesn’t want to do it, we’ll stop on him.”
Owned by George Hicker and Button Stables, Tres Borrachos has won two stakes – the 2008 Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park and the 2011 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar. Tres Borrachos was second in the 2009 Hollywood Gold Cup and third in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs.
In his last start, his first of 2014, Tres Borrachos was fifth in a $40,000 claimer over seven furlongs May 22 at Santa Anita. Jones said he has not seen any quit in Tres Borrachos.
“He likes his job, and that’s why he’s made so much money,” he said.Tres Borrachos is part of a field of five that includes Arkenstone, who was fifth June 7 in the Affirmed Stakes; Alpha Bullet, the winner of a starter allowance June 7; and Got Even and I Don’t Care Who, who were first and third in a $65,000 claimer June 15.
