Miller has two contenders at Oaklawn

Southern California-based trainer Peter Miller has leading contenders in two high-end sprint features on Sunday’s card at Oaklawn Park.
Captain Scotty looks like the controlling speed in the fifth race, an optional $40,000 claiming sprint at six furlongs that carries second-level allowance options. The horse was second at a similar condition in his last start Jan. 31 at Santa Anita. Captain Scotty dueled through a half-mile in 43.60 seconds in the slop and was beaten just three-quarters of a length in the six-furlong race, which went in a blazing 1:07.41.
Ramon Vazquez has the mount from the rail for Wachtel Stable and Gary Barber.
In the eighth race, Miller trainee Calculator moves back to the main track for an optional $62,500 claiming sprint at six furlongs. He was third at Santa Anita in a turf allowance at five furlongs Feb. 22 behind his stablemate Stormy Liberal, who finished second by a head in his second start back following a win in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
David Cohen has the mount on Calculator, a Grade 3 winner on dirt whose chief rivals appear to be Bourbon Cowboy and Wilbo.
◗ Lady T N T is being pointed to the $150,000 Purple Martin for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs Saturday at Oaklawn, trainer Joe Sharp said. She is to be ridden by Corey Lanerie.
◗ Heavy Roller, who put up one of the Oaklawn meet’s best Beyer Speed Figures when he won an allowance with a 99, is now based at Keeneland with his next start to be determined, Sharp said.
