It speaks to the depth of Godolphin Racing’s older male dirt division that even with its top horse, Speaker’s Corner, sitting in the barn this weekend awaiting the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap on June 11, it still has major contenders in several dirt stakes being run Saturday. At Churchill Downs, Godolphin will send out Prevalence in the Grade 1 Churchill Downs and Shared Sense in the restricted Knicks Go Stakes on Saturday’s Kentucky Derby undercard. Meanwhile, at Belmont Park, Cody’s Wish will represent the organization in Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Westchester Stakes. Cody’s Wish, a 4-year-old son of Curlin and the Grade 1 winner Dance Card trained by Bill Mott, went 3 for 3 in one-turn mile races at Churchill Downs last fall. In his one start this year, Cody’s Wish tried two turns in the Grade 3 Challenger Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, where he was beaten a neck by Scalding after breaking slowly. That effort looks better when you consider Scalding came back to win the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes on April 23 at Keeneland, his fourth straight win. While it would be unfair to say Cody’s Wish couldn’t be effective around two turns, Mott is looking at keeping him around one turn, making the one-turn mile Westchester attractive. :: Want to start playing with a $510 bankroll and have access to free Formulator? Sound Money makes his stakes debut in the Westchester after stringing together three solid races at Aqueduct during the winter and spring. He won a first-level allowance in January, then, after getting beat a neck when third in a second-level allowance in February, he came back to knock out that condition April 2 with a career-best 100 Beyer Speed Figure. Chad Brown, who trains Sound Money for Seth Klarman’s Klaravich Stable, said one-turn races from seven furlongs to a mile “is what he really wants to do. “He’s matured a lot over the winter. He’s gotten a lot sharper, faster, and braver in his works,” Brown said. “He’s a willing horse now, which he always wasn’t. I’m curious to see how far up the ladder he takes us.” Sound Money, who will be ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, would appear to have a tactical advantage in this race as seemingly the lone speed. Zoomer, the popular commodity at the claim box, beat Sound Money in February for his 10th career win from 34 starts. He was beaten three-quarters of a length in the Caixa Eletronica, a starter allowance race on New York Claiming Championships Day on March 26. :: Take your handicapping to the next level and play like a pro with free Formulator, DRF's premium data product Greatest Honour, the 2021 Holy Bull and Fountain of Youth winner, has not yet reproduced that form since returning for his 4-year-old season with disappointing efforts in the Grade 3 Challenger and Grade 3 Ghostzapper stakes.
