Mike's Pet wins Big Red Mike by five

LINCOLN, Neb. Mikes Pet sat just off the early pace, swung outside the leaders into the final turn and drew off ifor a five-length victory in the $20,700 Big Red Mile Stakes on Monday at Lincoln.

Mikes Pet, ridden by apprentice Chris Fackler for trainer Larry Staroscik, collected his biggest career win in defeating the field of seven older Nebraska-breds. He covered the mile in 1:40.60 over a fast track and returned $11.40 as the third choice. Future Fun rallied up the rail to gain second whle 6-5 favorite Justabit Shawklit checked in third, three-quarters of a length further back.
