Socks Are Up returns to Northlands Park, where he will be one of the favorites in Wednesday’s feature, a first-level allowance race for 3-year-olds going six-furlongs.
Socks Are Up wasn’t gone very long. Trainer Greg Tracy shipped him to Assiniboia Downs to run in the $30,000 Golden Boy Stakes on June 19. He forced the early pace before finishing third to Bet Your Boots and Cherokees Goal. In his previous start, Socks Are Up won a maiden special weight race over a sloppy track locally on May 29. Like many of the nine horses in the field, Socks Are Up has good speed and it is likely he will be involved right from the start with Quincy Welch aboard.
Trainer Rod Cone and owner Darrell Landry won the $50,000 Chariot Chaser for 3-year-old fillies with Notoriously on Canada Day and they hope Pros Or Joes will also develop into a top 3-year-old. Pros Or Joes has the best last -ace Beyer Speed Figure in the field, 74, and looked good winning a maiden special weight race in front-running fashion June 26.
Overbay, trained by Craig Smith, figures to attract a lot of attention off of his good second in a first-level allowance race June 19. A Florida-bred gelding by Sweetsouthernsaint, Overbay showed a lot of potential when he won a maiden special weight race going six furlongs in his debut on May 29.
Dubla Gold is coming to hand quickly for trainer Kelly Grieves. In his first start, he finished second to Shot for Grandpa in a 3 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race May 14 and then came right back to win a $20,000 maiden race by 6 1/4 lengths June 25.
