Miesque's Approval preps for Mile

Mike Welsch|Oct 21, 2006

MIAMI - Miesque's Approval continues to train well for his upcoming start in the Breeders' Cup Mile and worked a half-mile in 49 seconds early Saturday morning at Calder.

"It was his usual work and he went very well," said trainer Marty Wolfson. "I worked him before sunrise and he was a little hard to catch but I had him galloping out in 1:03, which I thought was excellent. He couldn't be doing any better and I'll give him one more work here next Saturday before shipping to Louisville."

Miesque's Approval, beaten less than two lengths in the Shadwell Mile on Oct. 7 following a long journey from south Florida to Kentucky and a less than perfect trip during the race, is scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs on Oct. 31, along with stablemates Pomeroy and Prospective Saint. Pomeroy will run in the BC Sprint while Wolfson is uncertain whether Prospective Saint will start in the Chilukki Stakes on Nov. 2 or the Very Subtle Stakes on Breeders' Cup Day.

Wolfson said Pomeroy is scheduled to work from the gate on Monday.

Multiple contenders in turf race

A pair of first-level allowance races, one on the turf and the second over the main course, highlight Monday's nine-race card.

A field of 10, including two also-eligibles, was drawn for the fifth race, scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on the turf. A wide-open betting affair, the race features any number of win contenders, including recent maiden winners Sky Crypt and Verismo, along with Gem of a Mom's Son, Falkirk, Lil Diazo, Red Dirt Road, and Spring Manners, who figures to be tough if he draws in off the also- eligible list.

The eighth race will be decided at seven furlongs on the main track with the red-hot Moon Baby topping a field that also features the speedy Blinka's Baby, Bluffer's Bid, Dig for Dinner, and Cadet Nurse.

Moon Baby had her three-race win streak snapped in her last start when she finished second behind the loose-on-the-lead Marimar Light.

Blinka's Baby has won two of her last three starts by a combined 11 1/2 lengths, but she could prove vulnerable stretching out to seven furlongs and returning to the allowance ranks.
