Midshipman filly sale leads Keeneland penultimate session
A weanling filly by Midshipman sold for $50,000 to lead the penultimate session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
A total of 135 horses changed hands for gross receipts of $775,500 during Thursday's session, the first of two sessions in the Book 7 section and the 11th of 12 sessions overall. The average price for the day was $5,787, and the median was $3,000. The session's buyback rate finished at 39 percent. The 2017 Keeneland November sale was structured into six books, thus there are not comparable-market session-to-session figures.
The Midshipman filly who led the session was purchased by Blue Sky Stables from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales, as agent.
The filly is out of the winning Wildcat Heir mare Dancing My Way, who does not yet have any foals of racing age. She is from the family of Grade 3 winner Marshua's Echelon, the dam of Grade 1 winner Run Man Run. Other stakes winners appearing on the catalog page include Big Apple Daddy, Golden Actor, and Lady Clever Trick.
The session's top-priced broodmare or broodmare prospect was Fantastic Girl, purchased for $45,000 by Levy Bloodstock. The 3-year-old Pioneerof the Nile filly, who has one second-place finish in six career starts, was consigned as a racing or broodmare prospect by Paramount Sales, as agent.
Fantastic Girl is out of the stakes-winning Touch Gold mare Ayla Bella, the dam of four winners from as many starters, including stakes-placed Lucky for You. Ayla Bella, out of Grade 1-placed Bello Cielo, is a half-sister to stakes winner Alex's Moon and to Group 2-placed Jobe.
