Mid-South notes: Show Some Magic to Zia Derby

Show Some Magic, a stakes winner who finished fifth in the $100,000 Damascus on the Breeders’ Cup Saturday undercard at Santa Anita, is being pointed for the $200,000 Zia Park Derby, said his trainer, Henry Dominguez.
The Zia Derby, to be run over 1 1/16 miles, is on Nov. 24. It is part of a program of stakes that includes the new $300,000 Zia Park Oaks.
Show Some Magic was second in the Grade 3, $800,000 Sunland Park Derby in March. Last year, he won the Riley Allison Futurity, also at Sunland. Show Some Magic is a son of Any Given Saturday and races for J. Kirk and Judy Robison.
Wyoming gets Instant Racing
Instant Racing, an electronic parimutuel game that helps fuel purses at such tracks as Oaklawn Park and Kentucky Downs, will soon go into operation at Wyoming Downs. The track, which conducted a two-date meet this past September, received legislative approval for the machines in 2013.
Wyoming Downs is now working with KB3 Marketing, a firm that oversees the Instant Racing operations at Oaklawn, to roll out the machines at its track and its OTB sites around Wyoming.
“We’re excited by this opportunity to bring life back to the Wyoming racing industry,” Eric Nelson, owner of Wyoming Downs, said in a release.
Bobby Geiger, director of wagering and gaming at Oaklawn, is the managing partner of KB3. KB3 also works with Kentucky Downs on Instant Racing.
Delta Jackpot, Princess pre-entries
Pre-entries for the Grade 3, $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot and Grade 3, $500,000 Delta Downs Princess close on Tuesday. Both races are for 2-year-olds, with the Jackpot at 1 1/16 miles and the Princess, restricted to fillies, at a mile. The races will share a card Nov. 23.
◗ Lone Star Park, which closed out its meet for Quarter Horses on Saturday, will close for training Nov. 15. The track had been operating as a training center since its Thoroughbred meet closed in July. The track is scheduled to reopen for training March 10.
◗ Oaklawn, which opens its meet in January, will begin receiving horses on its backstretch on Monday.
