Miami Valley: Cape Cod Hanover tops Burke trifecta in Hackett Memorial final

Despite drawing the outermost post, Cape Cod Hanover (Chris Page) captured the $50,000 final of the James K. Hackett Memorial for sophomore Ohio-sired pacing fillies at Miami Valley on Tuesday (April 26).
The daughter of red-hot sire Downbytheseaside led stablemates Coastal (Josh Sutton) and Twenty (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) through the wire, giving leading trainer Ron Burke a sweep of the top three spots.
The winner paid $8.40, the exacta returned $137, and the winning 50-cent trifecta was worth $559.95.
Page urged the winner off the gate enough to drop in third during the initial 27 1/5 quarter-mile. With even-money favorite Cold Hearted Gypsy (Trace Tetrick) slowing the pace to the 55 4/5 halfway station, Page moved to the outside and worked onto even terms with the leader past three-quarters in 1:23 4/5. A 28 1/5 closing kick was enough to hold off Coastal and Twenty in 1:52. When You Kiss Me (Tyler Smith) and Cold Hearted Gypsy earned the minor rewards in the lucrative championship tilt.
The Hackett victory pushed Cape Cod Hanover's record to eight wins in 12 starts to go with three second-place finishes, including the $200,000 Kentuckiana at Harrah's Hoosier Park and the $300,000 Ohio Sires Stakes final at MGM Northfield Park in 2021. The $20,000 yearling purchase from the Hanover Shoe Farms consignment to the Ohio Select Sale has now pushed her career bankroll to $305,467 in those dozen starts.
