Mia Mischief shifts focus to Carousel

Mia Mischief, winner of last year’s Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs, is scheduled to make her next start in the $125,000 Carousel at Oaklawn, trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday.
The Carousel, for fillies and mares at six furlongs, has been pushed back to April 25.
Mia Mischief won her 5-year-old debut March 20 in a local allowance. It was intended as her stepping-stone to this year’s Humana Distaff, said Asmussen, but that race is being rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Wells Bayou back on work tab
Wells Bayou, winner of the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby on March 21 at Fair Grounds, returned to the work tab Monday. He went a half-mile by himself in 49.80 seconds on a track rated good. Wells Bayou galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.60, according to trainer Brad Cox.
Cox said that Wells Bayou is a candidate for the May 2 Arkansas Derby.
“He went real well,” Cox said Monday. “He’s possible for the Arkansas Derby. I’m not committed. I want to get a feel for what might show up.”
Cox said he also wants to see how the racing calendar and other major preps come together over the next three weeks in light of the continual changes due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Wells Bayou is a winner of 3 of 5 starts and in February he ran second in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn.
