Mia Mischief looks to end losing streak in Dream Supreme
Mia Mischief very well could have taken a shot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, for which the favorite is Covfefe, a filly she has defeated this year. But instead, Mia Mischief, who is coming off three consecutive losses, will be favored in Friday’s $120,000 Dream Supreme Stakes for fillies and mares at Churchill Downs.
The six-furlong Dream Supreme may well be the career finale for Mia Mischief, an Into Mischief filly who is trained by Steve Asmussen for Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Heider Family Stables, and Madaket Stables. Mia Mischief is cataloged to be sold at the Fasig-Tipton November mixed sale the night of Nov. 5. Not only could she boost her stock with another stakes victory, she could also provide a timely catalog update for her dam, Greer Lynn, who is also cataloged to sell.
Mia Mischief brings a career record of 18-7-6-1 and earnings of more than $1 million into the Dream Supreme. Stakes-placed as a juvenile in 2017, Mia Mischief began to emerge as one of the better sprinting fillies of her age group last year, when she won two stakes and placed in three others, in a campaign highlighted by a win in the Grade 2 Eight Belles at Churchill Downs.
Mia Mischief wintered at Oaklawn Park, winning an optional-claiming race and finishing second in the Carousel Stakes to start her season. She then broke through by taking the Grade 1 Humana Distaff Stakes on the Kentucky Derby undercard at Churchill Downs, cruising by 1 3/4 lengths over Marley’s Freedom. She followed up by winning the Roxelana at Churchill, with Covfefe third.
But Mia Mischief is looking to rebound Friday after finishing fourth in the Grade 2 Honorable Miss and fifth in the Grade 1 Ballerina at Saratoga, and most recently third in the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America at Keeneland.
By contrast, Mia Mischief’s chief competition in the Dream Supreme, Divine Queen, appears to be in career form for trainer Buff Bradley. Divine Queen, who is 4 for 5 at Churchill Downs, won the Open Mind Stakes in September at Churchill in her last start. Runner-up Ascot Day and third-place Upset Brewing both return for another shot at her in the Dream Supreme.
Majestic Reason finished third in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont for Graham Motion last out in her graded stakes debut. The winner was Come Dancing, the second choice behind Covfefe on the morning line for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.
