Mexican Moonlight takes Old South Handicap

Jeff Taylor|Jun 20, 2004

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Rating kindly under E. J. Perrodin, Mexican Moonlight had enough left to turn back a bid from highweight Due to Win Again in midstretch to capture Saturday's Old South Handicap. Blue Guru reported home third followed by Due to Win Again's entrymate and older half sister, Due to Win.

Trained by Paul Murphy for Pass Taggart Racing, Mexican Moonlight ($9.00) picked up her first stakes win and fourth victory in 24 career starts. She covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:47.15 over a yielding turf course made soggy by an earlier downpour. The winner's share of $30,000 increased Mexican Moonlight's career earnings to just over $176,000.
