OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The stakes debut of two promising 3-year-old fillies and the return of a Grade 1-winning 3-year-old colt from 2022 could make for a successful Saturday at Aqueduct for trainer Chad Brown. That is, if Mother Nature doesn’t intervene. In the $100,000 Memories of Silver Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, Brown sends out the uncoupled pair of Lady Beth and Royalty Interest. The Memories of Silver, scheduled for one mile on turf, is carded as race 2, likely in hopes of trying to beat the impact that forecasted rain may have on the turf. The race drew seven for the turf and three main-track-only entrants. Later on the card, Brown sends out Zandon, winner of last year’s Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes, in a second-level allowance race scheduled for one mile on dirt. :: Take your handicapping to the next level and play with FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.  Lady Beth, a daughter of Hard Spun, won her only start by four lengths, under limited urging, on Feb. 5 at Gulfstream Park. Originally scheduled for the turf, that race was run over the Tapeta surface. While runners out of that race are 0 for 5, those horses finished either second or third in their next start, all with improved Beyer Speed Figures. Brown said Lady Beth had worked over a synthetic surface leading up to the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. auction last year, where she was purchased for $390,000, which is why he kept her in that race. “I think she’s going to probably be better on the turf,” Brown said. “She had a little bit of synthetic experience because she was purchased at the OBS sale, so that didn’t hurt her.” Lady Beth, who will break from post 2 under Flavien Prat, looks like she could be a forward factor in the Memories of Silver. “She’s got enough speed,” Brown said. “She’s a very handy horse to handle a mile.” Royalty Interest, a French-bred daughter of La Havre, won her only start by 3 1/4 lengths on March 11 on turf at Tampa Bay Downs. She closed three wide and powerfully under Irad Ortiz Jr., who is back in town to ride her again from post 7. “She showed a nice turn of foot on that ground,” Brown said. “I think she likes to get her toe in the ground and I think the turf at Aqueduct would be to her liking.” Queen Picasso, trained by Christophe Clement, is another who enters the Memories of Silver off a debut win, hers coming over the turf on March 5 at Gulfstream. One horse came out of that race to win for maiden $50,000 claiming, two others ran second in subsequent starts. Juniper’s Moon was a front-running winner of a maiden turf race at Tampa in February, beating the same horse, Lil Miss Moonlight, by three-quarters of a length that Royalty Interest beat by 3 1/4 lengths. Juniper’s Moon came out of that race to run third in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks at Tampa. Her trainer, Tony Dutrow, was still one win shy of 2,000 career victories entering Thursday. Unified Allowance was not entered main track only, but all four of her starts have come on dirt. She ran two decent races over wet surfaces before scoring a blowout 10 1/4-length allowance win on April 3 at Parx Racing for trainer John Servis. The three main-track-only entrants are Downtown Mischief, the undefeated winner of the Cicada Stakes; Crypto Mama, runner-up in the Weber City Miss Stakes at Laurel; and Balpool, a 9 1/2-length allowance winner here April 7. Zandon returns in allowance Zandon, who finished third in last year’s Kentucky Derby after winning the Blue Grass, makes his 4-year-old debut in a second-level allowance going one mile, which goes as race 8. This will be Zandon’s first start since he finished fourth as the 3-5 favorite in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile on Dec. 3, a race run over a sloppy track. That race came after he finished second to Taiba in the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx. “I thought he was sitting on a big race,” Brown said regarding the Cigar Mile. “I know he had a long season, but he always showed up. I thought he ran great in Pennsylvania and I really believed if it hadn’t rained for the Cigar, it would have been a different outcome, and we rested him totally sound.” :: Bet the races on DRF Bets! Among Zandon’s eight opponents are High Connection, winner of last year’s Los Alamitos Derby when trained by Bob Baffert. This will be his first start for trainer Todd Pletcher. Lastchanceatglory, who has been claimed the last 10 times he’s been offered for a tag, is in for $62,500. He was claimed for $40,000 on Feb. 24 by Linda Rice, who had lost the horse for that same price in January. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
