Megyns Gold goes for third straight win in optional claimer
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Megyns Gold is well spotted Friday at Oaklawn Park, where she will attempt to win her third straight race in a $50,000 optional-claiming sprint for 3-year-old fillies. Megyns Gold defeated a handful of these rivals last out when clearing her first-level allowance condition and is entered back for the tag in the ninth and final race on the card.
The other high-end action on Friday’s program comes in the eighth race, a $40,000 optional-claiming route race for fillies and mares that carries second-level allowance conditions. It is led by I Am Miss Brown, Ghost Locket, and Trans Continental.
Key contenders
Megyns Gold (Last 3 Beyers: 72-75-54)
* She has rolled to a perfect meet to this point, winning both of her starts at Oaklawn. Megyns Gold won a maiden special weight race Jan. 15, then came back to beat winners in a first-level allowance Feb. 7 in her most recent out.
* With two career wins, Megyns Gold is the only member of the field with multiple victories. She could control the pace Friday, although her outside draw of post 8 in the field of nine could see her track Lady Paislee, who breaks to her inside from gate 4.
* Cliff Berry, who has been aboard Megyns Gold in both of her starts, has the mount for trainer Chris Hartman.
Scadadle (Last 3 Beyers: 66-66-55)
* She’s charged with catching Megyns Gold, a horse the late runner ran third to in the first-level allowance Feb. 7.
* Scadadle fired a notable race last November, when she won a maiden special weight sprint at Churchill Downs with a Beyer Speed Figure of 80. It’s the best career number in the field Friday.
* Shaun Bridgmohan has the mount from the rail for trainer Chris Richard.
Empressive Humor (Last 3 Beyers: 16-76-50)
* She returns to the overnight ranks after facing stakes rivals last out when ninth in the $100,000 Dixie Belle at Oaklawn. The race run Jan. 15 has proven to be a strong one.
* The winner, Promise Me Silver, improved her career record to 6 for 6 one start later when taking a division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Sam Houston. The runner-up, Sarah Sis, was edged by the champion Take Charge Brandi in the $100,000 Martha Washington in her next start at Oaklawn, while the third-place finisher, Super Saks, came back to win a maiden special weight at Oaklawn by 11 lengths with a 90 Beyer.
