Meche gets injunction to ride

NEW ORLEANS - The attorney for jockey Donnie Meche said he had received an injunction from a judge at civil district court on Wednesday morning that would allow Meche to resume riding.

Meche has not ridden since stewards at Delta Downs suspended him for six months in a ruling issued Feb. 8. The suspension stemmed from Meche's ride on Cleaning House, who was third as a heavy favorite in a Jan. 23 trial race at Delta for the Graduation Futurity. The ruling said Meche did not do his best to win the race.

Meche appealed the suspension, but the Louisiana State Racing Commission denied his appeal. A hearing had been scheduled for Monday, but was postponed by the commission.

Meche's lawyer, Sonny Garcia, said a hearing is scheduled for Friday in civil district court to determine whether Meche can begin riding again Saturday.
