Workin Ona Mystery 5/4/19
Chris Gooden Trainer Brian Brown had Workin Ona Mystery ready to go in his first start of 2019

Pennsylvania Sire Stakes action kicked off today at The Meadows with three divisions for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings going to the gate.

The Bill MacKenzie-trained Southwind Ozzi started off the action with an impressive 1:50 4/5 win for driver Tim Tetrick, The Somebeachsomewhere colt made a long first-over move and sprinted home with an impressive last quarter of 26 seconds flat. Brian Brown trainee Proof was second, beaten a neck, with Prince of Tides grabbing the show spot. The win was a new lifetime mark for Southwind Ozzi, who is two-for-two this year with lifetime earnings over $70,000.

Tetrick returned to the winner’s circle in the very next race with Brown pupil Workin Ona Mystery in 1:50 1/5, the fastest of the three divisions. The son of Captaintreacherous was making his 2019 debut and did not disappoint. Coming three-wide from second-over off a blistering 26 4/5 third quarter, Workin Ona Mystery drew off to win by 2 1/4 lengths as the 4-5 favorite. Beaten only once as a 2-year-old in six starts, Workin Ona Mystery is now six-for-seven lifetime with $129,000 in earnings. Wild Wild Western was a game second after setting blistering fractions of 26 1/5, 55 1/5, and 1:22. Captain Malicious and Ray Schnittker finished third.

The third and final Sire Stakes event went to John Cancelliere’s Love Me Some Lou and David Miller in 1:50 4/5. With a strong first-over move, Love Me Some Lou wore down the pace-setting favorite Captain Victorious, who faded to third. Brassy Hanover and Tetrick got up for second. Love Me Some Lou paid $7.20 to his backers. The son of Sweet Lou is two-for-two in 2019 and boosted his lifetime earnings to $190,495.
