The Meadows: Stonebridge Soul, Tall Drink Hanover claim Adioo Volo victories

Three-year-old pacing fillies competed in a a pair of $60,000 Quinton Patterson Adioo Volo divisions on Saturday afternoon at The Meadows, with wins going to Stonebridge Soul and Tall Drink Hanover.

Stonebridge Soul (Tim Tetrick), the winner of the Lynch Memorial and Mistletoe Shalee, added an Adioo Volo title to her 2019 haul with a 1:51 1/5 effort in the first grouping.

She cleared Sweet Heaven (Yannick Gingras) for the front passing the 26 4/5 opening quarter, then backed down the half to just 56 3/5. She picked up the tempo from there, reaching three-quarters in 1:23 2/5 while rebuffing a first-over advance from Treacherous Reign (Dexter Dunn), and a 27 4/5 final kicker got Stonebridge Soul the win by half a length over Sweet Heaven. Odds On St Lucie (Corey Callahan) rallied from second-over to collect third.

“She’s definitely on her game right now, and she’s feeling her oats,” Tetrick said. “She can leave hard and still go the half in a minute. As soon as you talk to her, she picks it back up and races whoever comes at her.”

Chris Ryder trains Stonebridge Soul, a Somebeachsomewhere filly, for owners Henderson Farms and Robert Mondillo. This was her eighth career win, and she has now put away $473,846. The 3-5 favorite, she paid $2.60 to win.

In the other Adioo Volo section, Tall Drink Hanover (Andrew McCarthy) worked into the lead going to the 27 1/5 first quarter, but Warrawee Ubeaut (Gingras) pressed on from post nine and cleared three-eighths in. Warrawee Ubeaut would go on to the half in 56 1/5 and the three-quarters in 1:23 4/5, but McCarthy edged Tall Drink Hanover to the outside late on the far turn to take another run the leader.

Warrawee Ubeaut clung to the top spot for most of the stretch drive, but Tall Drink Hanover kept chipping away until she finally got the advantage right on the money, winning by a nostril in 1:50 2/5. Rockn Philly (Tetrick) was the third-place finisher.

“She’s been terrific for what we paid for her — $35,000,” said winning trainer Tony Alagna. “She’s been a real sweetheart. She goes next to the Shady Daisy on Hambletonian Day, and she’s eligible to everything late.”

A daughter of Captaintreacherous, Tall Drink Hanover is trained by Alagna for the ownership group of Alagna Racing LLC., Marvin Katz, and Riverview Racing LLC. She made her tenth appearance in the winner's circle, and she has now pocketed $469,422. The 9-5 second choice, she returned $5.80 to win.
