The Meadows: Party Girl Hill takes Adioo Volo to stay undefeated

The $107,320 Adioo Volo for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday afternoon at The Meadows was billed as a battle between undefeated Party Girl Hill and Dan Patch Award winner Lyons Sentinel, and it didn't disappoint, with Party Girl Hill turning in a spectacular performance from first-over to prevail in 1:49 4/5, taking her record to five wins in five attempts.

Lyons Sentinel (Tim Tetrick) left out quickly from post eight and cleared Pettycoat Business (Scott Zeron) for the front passing the 26 2/5 opening quarter. Meanwhile, Party Girl Hill landed in fourth for Dexter Dunn and began to move first-over going to half, which Lyons Sentinel put on the board in a soft 56 2/5. Off that easy second quarter for a filly the caliber of Lyons Sentinel, it figured to be tough sledding ahead for Party Girl Hill, but she moved up steadily on the outside and poked a head in front of Lyons Sentinel at the 1:23 2/5 three-quarters.

Party Girl Hill and Lyons Sentinel continued to battle around the far turn, but Party Girl Hill maintained that narrow advantage on the outside, and then in the stretch she began to edge away. At the wire it was Party Girl Hill a length and a quarter ahead of Lyons Sentinel, with Pettycoat Business third after yielding for the two-hole. Shouldabeenatd (Yannick Gingras) and Dance Club (Matt Kakaley) were fourth and fifth.

"I thought after that cheap quarter that it might be a hard task for my filly," Dunn said. "The way she traveled up the back, though, she seemed to have the other one's measure. She kicked away in the straight, doing it pretty easy."

Chris Ryder trains Party Girl Hill, a daughter of Captaintreacherous, for owner/breeder Tom Hill. Party Girl Hill has earned $143,610 to go with her undefeated status and returned $3.00 to win as the 1-2 favorite.

"I expect her to be improving, and she raced like she is," Ryder said. "You can only train them so much at home, but she always felt as good as a horse can feel."
