The Meadows: An Orange Crush in PA Sire Stakes

Greg Reinhart|Jul 31, 2021
Pub Crawl 7-31-21
Chris Gooden This was Pub Crawl's first win in the PA Sire Stakes program in 2021

Pub Crawl and Argyle gave Team Orange Crush - driver Andy Miller and trainer Julie Miller - a sweep of the two Pennsylvania Sire Stakes divisions for 3-year-old trotting fillies that took place on the undercard of the Delvin Miller Adios on Saturday afternoon at The Meadows.

In the first $71,366 split, Pub Crawl led through stations of 28, 57 2/5, and 1:26 1/5 and was able to fend off a first-over attack from favored May Karp (Tim Tetrick) to three-quarters and around the last turn. May Karp was all done before they turned for home, but Goo Doo Doll (Yannick Gingras) swung out three-wide from second-over and rallied strongly towards Pub Crawl, who was under heavy urging from Miller. Pub Crawl and Goo Doo Doll hit the wire together, but the photo finish camera showed that Pub Crawl had been able to keep her nose in front, and she took the victory in 1:55. Frankly My Dear (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) was just a neck back in third after a pocket trip.

A daughter of Bar Hopping bred by Fair Winds Farm Inc. and Steve Jones, Pub Crawl is owned by Marvin and Lynn Katz, Al Libfeld, and Sam Goldband. This was her sixth win from 21 career starts, and she has now earned $288,759. She was was the 9-5 second choice and paid $5.80 to win.

Race favorite Ineffable (Tetrick) put up fractions of 28 1/5, 57 3/5, and 1:26 2/5 in the second $71,766 grouping, but Argyle came to the outside in the stretch, surged by Ineffable, who switched over to a pace, and then held off a rallying Melania (David Miller) to prevail by half a length in 1:55 1/5. Ineffable crossed the wire third, but was placed fifth for being on the wrong gait in the lane, elevating Night Flyer K (Gingras) from fourth to third.

"We just got her about two months ago," Andy Miller said. "We thought this would be a good spot to try to make a little score with her."

Argyle, a Creatine filly, is a homebred for Diamond Creek Farm and their racing operation. Winless in four tries as a rookie, she has a record of 4-1-2 from seven trips behind the gate in 2021, and she has pocketed $71,279 overall. She returned $5.00 to win as the 3-2 second choice.
