The Meadows: Kate's Massive captures Currier & Ives
A field of nine 3-year-old trotters lined up for a purse of $99,430 in the Currier & Ives on Friday evening at The Meadows, and it would be last year's Pennsylvania Stallion Series champion Kate's Massive delivering for driver Dave Palone in 1:54 1/5.
Away second from the rail, Kate's Massive moved to the lead in the second quarter. After reaching three-quarters in 1:25 3/5, Kate's Massive was able to rebuff the first-over bid of Shake N Bake (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.), then kicked clear in the stretch to win by two lengths. Shake N Bake did hold second, with Stinglike A B K (Tony Hall) back in third.
Kate's Massive, a Muscle Massive colt, is trained by Kelly Paver for owner/breeder Harry Horowitz. Kate's Massive has won eight of his 11 career starts, and he has now earned $136,267. He returned $4.40 to win as the favorite.
