The Meadows: Jazzed, Lake Dora score in PA Sire Stakes

Jazzed and Lake Dora prevailed as the favorites in a pair of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes flights for 2-year-old pacing fillies on Thursday afternoon at The Meadows.
In the first $81,072 division, Jazzed and driver Andy Miller left quickly from post six and got to the lead at the 27 1/5 opening quarter. From there, Miller backed down the tempo to 56 3/5 at the half and 1:25 1/5 at three-quarters, and then Jazzed accelerated on the far turn and through the lane, winning by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:53 flat. No Foolin (Tim Tetrick) rallied from fifth to second in the final quarter, and Must Be Nice (Dave Palone) and Somesweetsomewhere (Yannick Gingras) finished in a dead-heat for third.
"I wanted her to go forward off the gate," Miller said. "I knew she was pretty good in there, and I was hoping nobody would take me too hard. That little breather obviously was key to the race, but then she responded finishing. We'll keep her in the sire stakes for now and see where we end up. She's definitely one to be reckoned with."
Julie Miller trains Jazzed, a daughter of Betting Line, for owners Andy Miller Stable Inc., Gty Stable, and Lou Willinger. Jazzed, bred by Winbak Farm, was a $37,000 purchase at last year's Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, and she has now won both of her pari-mutuel efforts, banking $46,386 in the process. The fourth foal out of millionaire Sportsmaster mare Sportsfancy, Jazzed was the 4-5 choice and paid $3.80 to win.
Lake Dora (Gingras), making her pari-mutuel debut after finishing second and first in two qualifier at the Meadowlands, gunned out from post four and was able to get command away from Im No April Fool (Tetrick) passing the 27 3/5 opening quarter. Lake Dora was then unchallenged through a 57 3/5 half and a 1:25 1/5 three-quarters, and she drew off in the final quarter to win by four lengths in 1:53. Im No April Fool held second over Madeira Hanover (Scott Zeron).
A filly by Captaintreacherous, Lake Dora is trained by Nancy Takter for owners Rojan Stables, Caviart Farms, and R A W Equine Inc. Lake Dora was bred by Vieux Carré Farms and was acquired for $95,000 at the 2020 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. Lake Dora's dam is the Dragon Again mare Bodacious Hanover, making her a half-sister to Lake Charles ($186,650, 1:50 2/5), and Lake Dora's grand-dam is $2.8 million earner Bunny Lake. Lake Dora was also sent off at 4-5 and also returned $3.80 to win.
"She has a little bit of an attitude sometimes," Takter said. "She's perfect on the track. It's just getting her to the track. Sometimes she can be a hassle. She'll rear up, and she's broken three jog carts. But she likes to race, and that's good. She uses that energy on the track in good ways."
