Sire Sweet Lou was responsible for three of the four Arden Downs winners for 2-year-old pacers on Saturday afternoon at The Meadows. Lyons Serenity (Tim Tetrick) started off the string for Sweet Lou by winning the first $20,435 flight for the fillies in a stakes record 1:52 2/5. She was able to clear from first-over past the 57 1/5 half, rang up three-quarters in 1:24 2/5, and closed in 28 seconds to win by 2 3/4 lengths over early leader Allnight Micki (Dave Palone). "She's fast, but mentally, I don't think she's ready for tougher yet," Tetrick said. "She's a little on the hot side. If she gets her own way, she looks good. If she didn't get her own way, I don't know if she would look so good. She has some growing up to do." Trained by Jim King Jr. for owner Threelyonsracing, Lyons Serenity is out of the Real Desire mare Southwind Serenity. Lyons Serenity, who was bred by Southwind Farms and purchased for $35,000 at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, has a record of 2-1-0 from three starts, has banked $25,172, and paid $3.20 to win as the 3-5 favorite. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Birthday (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) was able to get to the front from post eight in the opening $21,035 division for colts and geldings and put up fractions of 27 4/5, 56 3/5, and 1:24. Birthday was under pressure from a first-over JM's Finaltreasure (Yannick Gingras) and pocket-sitting All The Chips in the lane, but was able to fend off the former and took advantage of the latter getting steppy in the passing lane to tally by a head in 1:52. "No one really left out of there, and I was able to get decent fractions," Wrenn said. "He paced home really strong. I thought someone would quarter-move on me, but when no one did, I was able to get a good breather." Ron Burke trains Birthday, a homebred for Burke Racing Stable LLC. and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Birthday, whose dam is the Western Hero mare Breakheart Pass, has two wins, two seconds, and a third from five attempts, has pocketed $43,998, and returned $14.60 to win as a 6-1 shot. Rounding out the Sweet Lou winners was Fourever Boy (Palone) in the second $21,035 tilt for colts and geldings. Fourever Boy shot to the engine from post six and hit the opening quarter in 28 and the half in 57 2/5. Past the half, he came under attack from a first-over Boardwalk Bet (David Miller), but Fourever Boy was able to quicken on the inside to repel Boardwalk Bet's bid, and had put him away before the 1:24 3/5 three-quarters. From there, Fourever Boy went on to tally by a length and a half in 1:53 2/5, with Good Deal (Gingras) and Dreaming Of Lou (Tetrick), both also by Sweet Lou, second and third, respectively. Fourever Boy is trained by co-owner Tim Twaddle, who shares ownership with Micki Rae Stables LLC. Fourever Boy, who is out of Macharoundtheclock (Mach Three), was bred by Birnam Wood Farms and was acquired for $50,000 at the 2020 Standardbred Horse Sale. Fourever Boy broke his maiden in his fourth attempt, has now put away $16,301, and paid $10.80 to win as a 4-1 offering. The only horse able to break the Sweet Lou stranglehold in the event was Captain Cowgirl (Andrew McCarthy), who won the second $20,835 section for fillies in 1:53 2/5. She tucked in third from post eight, bided her time through fractions of 28 2/5, 57 1/5, and 1:25 2/5, then stepped out first-over on the final bend. Captain Cowgirl advanced into second turning for home, dueled with leader and favorite Hit Me Up (Joe Bongiorno) in the stretch, and wore her down late to score by a nose. Collusion Illusion (Gingras), the lone Sweet Lou in that contest, was third. Captain Cowgirl, the second Arden Downs winner trained by King Jr., is a Captaintreacherous-Rideintothesunset filly owned by Jo Ann Looney-King and Ken Frieder. Captain Cowgirl, who was bred by Kentuckiana Farms and Pinske Stables LLC., fetched $20,000 at the Standardbred Horse Sale, is undefeated in three efforts, and has earned $47,708. The 2-1 second choice, she returned $6.60 to win. --quotes courtesy of The Meadows--
