Meadowlands: World record mile by Six Pack in a Stanley Dancer Memorial division

Six Pack is now the fastest 3-year-old colt trotter in harness racing history after he lowered the world record for the division to 1:50 in winning the second of two $181,000 Stanley Dancer Memorial divisions on Saturday night at the Meadowlands. Goodtimes winner Wolfgang also impressed in the other section, scoring a 1:51 2/5 victory.
Alarm Detector (Trevor Henry) helped out in the world record performance, chopping out opening-half fractions of 26 2/5 and 54 4/5. Six Pack, who took a tuck into third from the outside post, was hoisted out of that position by trainer/driver Ake Svanstedt, and he would join Alarm Detector on the front at the 1:22 3/5 three-quarters. Six Pack was able to clear to command in the lane, and from there he went on to win by over two lengths from You Know You Do (Yannick Gingras), who gained some belatedly after following the winner's cover. Alarm Detector settled for third.
The previous world record was 1:50 1/5, set by Muscle Hill in the 2009 Hambletonian at the Meadowlands and by Donato Hanover in 2007 at The Red Mile.
"He's a tough horse, but I got a seat and held him until we came to the stretch," said Svanstedt. "I felt the power when he came into the last eighth. I hope he can be sound and healthy three more weeks. It's tough (to win back-to-back Hambletonians), but I'm looking forward for that."
Svanstedt also co-owns Six Pack, a colt by Muscle Mass, with partners Little E LLC., Stall Kalmar Ff and Lars Berg. This was Six Pack's ninth win from 14 career starts, and he has now earned $560,555. He was the 3-5 favorite and paid $3.40 to win.
Wolfgang (Gingras), who had missed time since winning the Goodtimes at Woodbine Mohawk Park last month after having a testicle removed, showed no rust as he won in facile fashion. He swept into the lead around Hat Trick Habit (Tim Tetrick) passing the 28 second opening quarter, and after a 55 4/5 half and a 1:24 1/5 three-quarters, he kicked away to down a rallying Classichap (Trond Smedshammer) by 2 1/4 lengths. Zephyr Kronos (Jimmy Takter) also came on strongly from well back and got third.
"He was very good. I thought he was tremendously impressive," said Gingras. "He missed a lot of time. Jimmy told me he was ready, but obviously he's not 100% fitness-wise. I couldn't be any happier. He was strong finishing.
"It makes me feel really, really good going into the Hambletonian. This horse is really good to drive, and I think he can race either way. I think he stamped himself pretty good now."
Takter trains Wolfgang, a My MVP colt, for owners Brixton Medical Inc., Goran Falk, Hatfield Stables, and Fair Island Farm Inc. Wolfgang is now a six-time winner in his life, and he pushed his bankroll to $519,405. He was sent off as the 4-5 choice and returned $3.60 to win.
