Chris Ryder and Dexter Dunn's pair of Dan Patch Award winners from 2024 - Horse of the Year Twin B Joe Fresh and now 3-year-old pacing filly Miki And Minnie - each won their second straight qualifying race on Friday morning at the Meadowlands. Twin B Joe Fresh, a 5-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe, led through fractions of 28 4/5, 57 3/5 and 1:25 3/5 before she sprinted home in 26 seconds flat to tally in 1:51 3/5 for Ryder and Dunn, who co-own her with Pete Trebotica and Barry Spak. My Girl EJ (Todd McCarthy), the Dan Patch recipient for top sophomore filly pacer last year, hung with Twin B Joe Fresh throughout and was on Dunn's helmet in second at the wire. Miki And Minnie, by Always B Miki, raced from off-the-pace in her qualifier, and after tipping out of sixth nearing three-quarters, she brushed home in 25 3/5 to get up and defeat pace-setter Ronstadt (Scott Zeron) by a head in 1:52 4/5 for owners/breeders Craig Henderson, Robert Mondillo and Lawrence Minowitz. Trainer Andrew Harris sent out four winners during the session, scoring with 3-year-old trotting colts Monserrate (1:54 1/5) and Grande Via (1:53 4/5), both with David Miller in the bike, 3-year-old trotting filly Yo Tillie (1:55 3/5) with Todd McCarthy at the controls and 5-year-old Stay Hungry stallion Seven Colors (1:51 3/5) for Jason Bartlett. A 5-year-old Walner stallion, he led throughout and prevailed in 1:53 4/5 with Bartlett driving. Captain Optimistic, a 3-year-old Captaintreacherous colt who won the Governor's Cup final in 2024, sat fifth and rallied by Metro Pace champion Fallout and Kindergarten Series winner Papi's Pistol in the lane to win the ninth qualifier in 1:51 4/5 for Dunn and trainer Nancy Takter, and Takter also took the fifth with stakes-winning 3-year-old Walner filly Kendra, as she tipped out of the pocket in the stretch and got up for a half-length victory in 1:54 3/5 for Todd McCarthy. Also, 6-year-old Muscle Hill stallion Periculum, who won the Maple Leaf Trot final & was second in the MGM Yonkers International Trot, Breeders Crown Open Trot and FanDuel Open Trot finals in 2024, won his first qualifier of the year on the lead in 1:53 1/5 for Scott Zeron and Marcus Melander. Ake Svanstedt had several of his horses out during the session, and Truly Authentic, a 3-year-old daughter of Tactical Landing, gave his stable a winner in 1:58 2/5 with Sarah Svanstedt handling the driving.
